The construction of a new grammar school was decided in Lappersdorf, south of Regensburg, at the end of 2009 From 2011 to 2012 a new school complex of top-notch design was built in only 15 months. Today, it offers optimal learning conditions to over 700 students, thanks to its own cafeteria, ideal rooms for all-day attendance as well as numerous recreational, mobility and resting facilities.

The task.

The Max Hofmann GmbH & Co. KG from nearby Neutraubling was awarded the fabrication of the floor surface of over 7000 m2 for the entire interior of the new school complex. The interior concept used modern large tiles in the auditorium area and resistant wood flooring in hallways, classrooms and teacher facilities. To prepare a base for the floor covering, an extremely rugged screed had to be installed.

The challenge.

To install screed over an area of 7000 m2, the size of a soccer field, represented a major challenge for Rainer Prinz and his team from Max Hofmann. After all, this screed should be able to withstand extreme stresses over many years. The time factor also played a key role. Because of the tight construction phase calculated for only 15 months, the screed had to settle quickly and be ready for foot traffic and installation. Other trade jobs should not be blocked longer than necessary. The date of completion, the first school day after the 2012 summer vacation, was immovable. Because of the underfloor heating, integrated in the entire building, the demand on the screed was higher than usual. Because of the temperature differences to be expected, the screed had to exhibit especially low deformation and low tension properties.

The solution.

UZIN NC 198 was the best choice for Max Hofmann GmbH & Co. KG to mastering the challenge. This easy to process rapid cement is ideally suited for the fabrication of extremely dimensionally stable and practically shrinkage-free screeds in interior and exterior areas. With UZIN NC 198 even larger areas up to 200 m2 can be installed without problems and without cracks, curling or setting at the edges. Elaborate pre-determined breaking points and movement joints are largely unnecessary. Added costs for a new resin application are thus avoided. Especially the drying process, exact to the day, guarantees absolute planning certainty for contractors and architects, even under unfavourable climate conditions.

The implementation.

To meet the high demands on quality and installation speed, detailed planning was absolutely essential in close cooperation with UZIN sales agent, Uwe Kunzelmann. The entire area was therefore first broken down into several segments. They were then processed in parallel by the screed teams of Max Hofmann GmbH & Co. KG. Thanks to the efficient work and area division and the long working time capability of UZIN NC 198 the team was able to install the rapid cement screed for the total area of the size of a soccer field within a short amount of time – and all that perfectly level.

The result.

The Lappersdorf grammar school could be completed on time with a festive dedication ceremony at the beginning of the 2012. 700 students now enjoy the modern, inspiring rooms of the new grammar school since early September 2012. Because of the low-shrinkage rapid cement UZIN NC 198 these rooms are equipped with a reliable screed.
